Every durable surface starts well below ground. We carry out the excavation, sub-base preparation, and drainage groundworks that make surfacing last.
Poorly prepared ground is the single most common reason tarmac surfaces fail prematurely. Subsidence, cracking, and drainage failure almost always trace back to inadequate groundworks rather than problems with the surface itself. We do not cut corners below the surface.
Whether we are preparing the ground for a new driveway, a commercial car park, a farm track, or a footpath, the groundworks approach is the same — excavate to the right depth, install a correctly specified sub-base, and ensure drainage is managed before any tarmac is laid.

All excavated material is removed from site cleanly, leaving a level formation ready for the sub-base.
We install a correctly graded and compacted sub-base of crushed stone or recycled aggregate to provide a stable, load-bearing foundation.
Where the natural ground drains poorly, we install formation drainage below the sub-base to prevent water accumulating and weakening the base.
The sub-base is set to the correct levels and falls to ensure the finished surface drains as intended.
Groundworks and surfacing are carried out by the same team, ensuring continuity and no miscommunication between trades.
