Car Park Surfacing

Car Park Surfacing in North Yorkshire

We surface and resurface car parks across North Yorkshire for businesses, hotels, offices, retail sites, sports clubs and public-sector clients. From small forecourts to larger multi-bay sites, we handle the full job from excavation to line marking, with phasing options for sites that need to stay open.

What We Do

A commercial car park has different demands to a residential driveway. It needs to handle heavier loads, more frequent traffic, and the wear of vehicles starting, stopping and turning. The build-up has to reflect that, and the project has to be planned around your trading hours, your customers and your access requirements.

  • Phased works available so your site can stay open during the job
  • Line marking, drainage and kerbing included as standard
  • Heavier-duty build-up specified for commercial loading
  • Method statements, risk assessments and proof of insurance provided
  • Repairs and overlays available where a full resurface is not needed
  • Honest assessment of whether to repair, overlay or fully rebuild

Our Process

How a typical job runs from first contact to finished surface.

  1. Site survey and consultation

We visit the site, take measurements, look at the existing surface, discuss your trading constraints, and put together a written quote with a clear scope and timeline.

  2. Phasing plan

If the car park needs to stay open during the job, we plan the work in phases, section by section or evenings and weekends, so customers and staff can still use the site.

  3. Excavation and preparation

We excavate to the required depth, remove the failed surface, treat any soft spots in the underlying ground, and lay a properly compacted sub-base sized for the loading.

  4. Drainage and kerbing

We install or upgrade drainage as needed, plan surface falls so water runs to gulleys or soakaways, and install kerbing or edging where required.

  5. Binder and surface courses

We lay a binder course followed by the surface course, both compacted hot. For commercial sites the build-up is typically thicker than for residential driveways.

  6. Line marking and signage

We mark out parking bays, disabled bays, walkways, hatched areas and directional arrows. We can match an existing layout or work to a new design.

  7. Handover and documentation

We provide all the documentation you need, including method statements, risk assessments, proof of insurance and before/after photos, for your records, your insurer or your landlord.

Materials and Options

Car parks generally use a thicker binder course and surface course than residential driveways, because the loading and traffic frequency are higher. We will recommend the right specification for your site after we have seen it.

For sites with heavy goods vehicles or frequent commercial traffic, we can spec a heavy-duty build-up. For light-use sites such as small office car parks and residential developments, a standard commercial build-up is usually sufficient.

Looking After Your Surface

Commercial car parks should be inspected at least once a year for early signs of failure: hairline cracks, edge damage, sunken areas around drainage points. Catching these early and repairing them before water gets in extends the life of the surface significantly.

Line markings will fade over time and should be refreshed every few years to keep the site looking professional and the bays clearly defined. We can do this as a standalone job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you work around our opening hours?

Yes. For commercial sites we routinely phase the work, closing one section at a time and working evenings or weekends where needed, and keeping the site operational. Tell us your constraints when we visit and we will plan the job around them.

Do you handle line marking and drainage?

Yes. Line marking, drainage planning and any necessary kerbing or edging are all part of the service. We can mark out standard parking bays, disabled bays, walkways, hatched areas and directional arrows.

How long does a car park resurface take?

It depends on the size and complexity of the site, but a typical small-to-medium car park can be resurfaced within a few days. Larger or phased jobs take longer. We will give you a realistic schedule before any work begins.

Do you provide method statements and risk assessments?

Yes. For commercial and public-sector work we provide written method statements, risk assessments and proof of insurance as standard. We can also work to specific site rules and access requirements.

Can you repair our car park rather than fully resurface it?

Often, yes. If the underlying structure is sound and only specific areas have failed, targeted patch repairs and an overlay may be a cost-effective option. If the failure is structural, a full rebuild is more economical in the long run. We will tell you honestly which makes sense for your site.
